Finding the Right Support

May 19, 2025

We talk a lot about “being strong” when it comes to mental health. But what if strength also looked like knowing when to ask for help?

For many people, the hardest part of the healing journey is reaching out. Not because they don’t want to feel better—but because somewhere along the way, they were taught that asking for help meant weakness, failure, or not having it all together.

Let’s be clear: it doesn’t.

Asking for help is a deeply human act. It takes courage to say, I can’t carry all of this alone. It takes strength to trust someone with your story, your pain, or even your uncertainty. And most importantly, it’s a decision that can open the door to real change.

Support Looks Different for Everyone

Support isn’t just one thing. For some, it’s therapy. For others, it’s coaching, group support, spiritual direction, or simply having one safe person who listens without judgment.

Finding the right kind of support doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you’re taking care of yourself in a world that often asks you to push through, numb out, or pretend everything’s fine.

It’s also okay if you’re unsure where to start. Whether you’re new to therapy, returning after a break, or exploring other paths to wellness, what matters is that you start.

If you’ve ever thought…

  • I don’t have time for therapy
  • It’s too expensive
  • I should be able to handle this on my own
  • No one will understand me

… you’re not alone. These are real barriers, and they deserve real conversation. But you also deserve support that meets you where you are, without shame, without comparison, and without a checklist of how “bad” things must be before you’re allowed to get help.

This Week’s Call to Action

Take one step toward support. Just one. It could be:

  • Researching a local or online therapist
  • Texting a friend to say, “Can we talk this week?”
  • Signing up for a support group or workshop
  • Saying out loud, even just to yourself, I’m ready to start healing

You don’t have to be in crisis to get support. You just have to be human.

And you are worth that kind of care.

Closing Thoughts

Mental health awareness isn’t just about information. It’s about action. And sometimes, that action starts with the smallest, bravest whisper: I think I need help.

If that’s you, know that you’re not alone. And there is no shame in wanting to feel better.
